I think that the Robot chicken start wars and family guy star wars should be archived.
I feel that they are a perfect representation of appropriation. Using scene after scen from the original startwars films and changing it to a comedy spoof.
These maybe more important thaan most examples as starwars is a work of appropriation.
making these films an appropriation of appropriation.

  1. Interesting choice. They do a very amusing job of appropriating from various elements and aspects of the franchise such as characters (both integral and peripheral) and making the outcome amusing for fans of the franchise. However, I think a superior choice of archiving for posterity would be Kill Bill. The reason for this is because the appropriations and the references don't just come from one film or a particular franchise, they come from far and wide and are arranged together in a fantastic way. One scene in particular illustrates this: In Kill Bill vol. 2, The Bride is breaks out of a grave (as a reference to an Italian Spaghetti Western "Django Kill... If you Live, Shoot") using a martial arts technique that we previously saw her learning from an old Martial Arts Master called Pai Mei (who is a Villain from two Hong Kong Kung Fu movies-"Executioners From Shaolin" and "Clan of the White Lotus" and is played by actor Gordon Liu, who played the protagonist in "Clan of the White Lotus"), while the rousing music playing during the scene is the theme from another Italian Spaghetti Western called "Il Mercenario" (the music is composed by Ennio Morricone, who composed the music to many Spaghetti Westerns). Scenes like this appropriate from eastern and western cinema, unite the appropriations and when are put together, create an exiting spectacle composed entirely of references to other texts.

  2. Id also like to put forward Battle L.A. As i watched this it heavily played on my mind that a lot of the scenes seemed familiar as i descended further into the film. I became aware roughly 15 min's into the film that it was appropriating starship troopers. Through the drop scene in a helicopter being almost identical to that of the space pod drop in Starship troopers. The flow of the film was completely different not making and comical references as Star ship Troopers dose. But manorisms and language was the same as both lead male characters.

  3. I think that family guy is a good example of appropriation as it takes familiar films such as Star Wars and draws out the comedic side of it, and makes the more serious films seems funnier. In a way this gives more attention to the films referenced in Family Guy as the audience will be thinking of the original film whilst watching and enjoying the show mock it. -Vicky
